Dress Code Policy

Proper Attire standards as described below apply to all players when playing at Alburg Golf Links.

Shirts:
All men's shirts must have collars or mock collars. Women's shirts may be sleeveless without collars, but must be designed for golf. Examples of inappropriate shirts are; T-shirts, muscle shirts, tank top and halter-tops.

Shorts:
All shorts must be mid-thigh in length, loose fitting and hemmed. Examples of inappropriate shorts are; cut -offs, denim shorts, sweats, athletic shorts, swimming trunks and the like.

Slacks:
All slacks should be appropriate traditional golf attire. Examples of inappropriate slacks are; denim jeans or slacks with obvious tears or holes.

Shoes:
Alburg Golf Links is a non-metal non-penetrating soft spike facility.  Metal or penetrating spikes are forbidden.  Athletic turf shoes are not permitted. All members should inform their guest of this policy prior to their arrival.  There will be no exceptions to this policy.

Relaxation of the above dress code as it applies to spectators and users of the practice range is permitted as long as normal standards of decency and good taste are maintained.

All dress code issues will be at the discretion of the Professional Staff and we ask that all members and guests honor their decisions.

Tee Time Reservations Policy

Tee times are accepted 7 days in advance.  If you have a group of more than 16 players, you can schedule tee times at anytime throughout the season.

Due to increased play, it is strongly suggested that you schedule tee times seven days a week.

Registration Policy

All players are expected to register in the Pro Shop prior to using the driving range or playing golf.  This will help us to maintain accurate records of driving range usage as well as the number of rounds played during the season.  If it is busy in the Pro Shop, you can let the Pro Shop staff person know your golfer ID number and if you are using the driving range, playing 9 holes, or playing 18 holes.

Please remember that we have a number of different staff people who work in the Pro Shop and although we place a strong emphasis on knowing each member, sometimes (especially when it’s very busy in the pro shop) staff people may forget your name or ID number.  Please don’t be offended – we try very hard to respect our members and we hope that you will do the same with our staff.

We want to hear your feedback.  If you have any problems or concerns, please speak with Barb Cote, our Clubhouse & Restaurant Manager.

Golf Cart Rental/Operation Policy

bulletAll cart renters/operators must sign for their cart rental in advance in the Pro Shop.
bullet Renters/operators must be at least 16 years of age and possess a valid state motor vehicle operator’s license.  Pro shop staff may make exceptions to this rule at their discretion.
bullet Drive carts in rough whenever possible.
bullet Carts are encouraged to cross fairways at 90 degrees.
bullet Observe all traffic signs, use all paths when provided and never drive in the tall fescue.
bullet Keep carts at least 10 yards from all hazards, greens & tees.
bullet Park carts to the side of or behind greens rather than in front.
bulletNo more than two persons are permitted to ride in the cart.
bullet Carts may not be taken off of golf club property.
bullet Operation of a cart is the liability of the renter/operator, who is responsible for the cost of cart repair and property in case of negligence.
bullet Report any damage or malfunction to the Pro Shop immediately.
bullet Flagrant violations should be reported to the Pro Shop.  Reminder letters will be sent to repeat offenders.
bullet Failure to operate carts in accordance with the above policies will result in suspension of privileges.
bullet Members who pay for yearly cart rentals can use them to the last day of the regular season.  The course may be open to members after October 12th but all carts will be stored for the winter after that weekend.

Course Rules

Players are required to replace divots, rake sand traps, repair ball marks on greens and help maintain the condition of the course. It is the players' responsibility to see that such repairs are made.

All play must start at the first tee unless approved by the Pro Shop staff.

In order to keep up the pace of play, allow faster players to play through.  Slow players may be asked to pick up pace of play.

Each player must have a set of golf clubs.

All players must respect signs directing foot and cart traffic on the course.

Fivesomes are permitted on the course with Pro Shop approval.

No pets are allowed on the course or in the clubhouse.

The play on the golf course shall be governed by the rules of the United States Golf Association, except as modified by local rules which are posted in the Club House and listed on the next page.

In order to keep the dust down and avoid possible accidents, the speed of automobiles on the road approaching and around the Club House is limited to 12 mph.  Automobiles must be parked only in the designated parking spaces.

Unauthorized persons playing the course will be asked to leave immediately.

Alburg Golf Links is not responsible for the personal property of golfers. Clubs and other personal property should not be left unattended in the parking lot, around the Clubhouse, or on the course.

Please be respectful of others with use of your cell phone.  Loud ring tones and conversations can be distracting to fellow golfers.

Local Rules

All bushes/trees are in play on the grounds.  You only receive relief that has been tagged by the committee and/or superintendent with orange surveyors tape.

Ninth hole:  If your tee shot enters the tall fescue and shale, you may take relief in the designated drop area.  If you and your competitor agree that it entered here, you do not need to find your ball.  The option of hitting from the top is not available.

Out of bounds are located only on the 1st and 18th holes.

Seventeenth hole:  Should your tee shot hit the telephone wire, you must replay with no penalty.

Free lifts from all cart paths and extended cart paths.

Plugged balls that are lost due to wetness may be dropped no nearer the hole, provided all competitors agree that it was lost due to wetness, with no penalty.

Under winter rules it is important to note that one can not improve one’s stance even though you have a one club length rule in effect.  If you have an uphill or downhill stance it is important to maintain the integrity of that shot challenge with a drop no closer to the hole.  Note; this rule applies to your fairway only.

                    The Rules Committee Strongly Suggests…

If there is any doubt as to whether your ball might be out of bounds or possibly lost in tall fescue or rough areas, we would encourage you to declare a provisional shot and immediately take another shot.  This will improve the playability of the course for all members.

It is expected that all members should post all scores in the GHIN computer for all rounds played.  This would include away courses and would require that you get the slope and rating of the course that will be required for entry.

These rules are subject to change when the committee meets for 2008.

Practice Range

Hours of Operation

Monday - 10:30 A.M. - Sunset
Tuesday - Sunday
7:00 A.M. – Sunset

We will attempt to schedule regular maintenance on the driving range each Monday morning; however, there may be other times that we need to close it as well.  We will make every attempt to plan ahead for these times and will post notices in the Pro Shop.

We encourage you to take advantage of your unlimited use of the driving range.  Practice range balls are not to be taken off the driving range.

Restrooms

Restrooms are available on the first and second floors of the clubhouse during regularly scheduled hours.  If the clubhouse is closed, the restrooms on the first floor will be open.  You can access these bathrooms by the door under the porch.

Port-o-lets are also available on the 7th and 13th holes during the peak golfing season.

Food & Beverage Policy

There is a food and beverage order phone located just before the white tees on the 8th hole.  Please make sure that the kitchen responds to insure your order was placed correctly.

If you wish to break for lunch between nine holes, please check with the Pro Shop to see if you will be able to resume play on the 10th when you are finished eating.  If the course is full, you may need to wait for an opening to finish the last nine holes.

Alcohol Policy

We encourage everyone who plays our course to enjoy themselves fully.

Therefore, we allow alcohol to be consumed on the course.  However, no beer or alcoholic beverages may be brought onto the premises – due to our liquor license, all alcohol must be purchased in the Clubhouse.

We remind you to drink responsibly and be respectful of fellow golfers.  The consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors or by anyone who is intoxicated will result in loss of course privileges.

There are trash barrels located at every tee.  Please use them to dispose of any trash.  Please help us to keep our course looking beautiful.

Inclement Weather Policy

Severe Weather:  Lightning is a very real concern.   Storms form quickly near the lake and can cause injury and death.   If such a storm occurs while you are playing, immediately get under cover.  If you are not able to make it back to the Clubhouse, seek a large, permanent building, fully-enclosed metal vehicle (cars, vans or pickup trucks) or the lowest elevation area.  Avoid tall objects (trees, poles), large open areas, wet areas, elevated areas, and all metal objects including golf clubs, golf carts, fences, electrical and maintenance machinery and power lines.

No groups will be allowed to start play if dangerous conditions are present.

Rain:   The superintendent will determine if carts are allowed on the course due to wet weather.   Rain checks will be issued for severe weather only.

Frost:  We will delay golfers due to frost if we believe the conditions are detrimental to the course.  Call the Pro Shop if you have an early tee time on a morning where frost might occur.

Handicap Policy

Each golfer is able to get a handicap score included in their membership dues.   In accordance with the USGA handicapping guidelines, scores must be recorded for every round of golf played.

For instruction on how to enter scores please refer to manual “USGA Handicap System 2008-2011”.   A copy is available for you to read in the Pro Shop as well as an online version can be found at www.usga.org.

Pro Shop Credit Policy

Any winnings paid out in tournaments and leagues played at Alburg Golf Links will be given in the form of Pro Shop credit.  Pro Shop credits may be used to purchase merchandise, greens fees and cart rentals.  These Pro Shop credits must be redeemed by the end of the golfing season in which they were awarded.  Any unused pro shop credit will be forfeited and used to fund the Junior Program.

League Play

We encourage members to join in our leagues.  They are fun, gently competitive, and it’s a great chance to meet fellow members.  We currently have a Mens League which plays Tuesday mornings, a Women’s League which plays Thursday mornings, and a Friday Night League which is a scrambles format.  The leagues are open to all players regardless of ability and the main focus is to have fun.

Sign ups are posted near the GHIN computer right outside of the Pro Shop.  Please ask a staff member if you have any questions about the leagues.
